VIBE :  Fun Mexican bar/restaurant.  There is plenty of tables or bar space.  It seems there is usually only one waiter/waitress so they run pretty hard.  All the staff is super friendly.  I always order my drink immediately in fear they won't come back for s bit.  Although today she came back 3 times because we chatted so much we forgot to look at the menu lol

FOOD : Food is tricky.  chips and salsa is good.  My Husband always gets the tacos, loves them.  Chili relleno is incredible!!!!  Don't bother with the salad or shrimp app.  The veggie burrito and the veggie tacos are yummy.  My friend today got the carne asada and the meat was tough.  They make their poppers there!! Broke da mouf!  The burrito is big and fat the way I like it.

DRINK : beers by can, bottle or tap.  I'm a big fan of the li-hing mui margarita. (Sweet/sour plum)

UPEDATE: see photos to see what's going on.  They used some velveta like cheese on the nachos then sprinkled a small amount of real cheese.  The jalapeño poppers were not homemade this time.  The red enchilada sauce was too spicy and no flavor.  I can handle hot too.  The carne asada burrito only had rice and meat.  The waiter was a grumpy old man.  Our experiences as terrible this time around.  I hope they get it together.

UPDATE:  Excellent service!  Food was very good!!!  We got fajitas and a double margarita.  Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.  Our margaritas were huge and we left feeling very happy lol!  Vegetable fajitas was just onions and peppers.  You have free pico de gallo and chips so you can add that.  Not the best place for a vegetarian/vegan options but you can make due.   Mushrooms would have been a great add on.  Avocado was extra and worth it.  We were very happy with the service and food.

I went here with my brother to get dinner. I was disappointed that there were no vegan options but I am very grateful that the man working there was honest! He informed me that everything is made with chicken broth. The beans are cooked in lard but he was willing to get beans he had in the back not cooked in lard yet to make it for me. Thank you so much for that! I do have to let you know that Coquito's, which is down the road, has a few vegan options! So non vegans can eat here and vegans can get something from Coquito's.

The restaurant is a little confusing. There is a dining area and a takeout area. I happen to enter from the takeout area and no one was there. We waited a few minutes and a worker popped up and directed us down the hall to the dining area.
We did take out but sat in the dining area. The waiter gave us water as we waited. I ordered the carne asada torta. It was delicious. The bottom of the bread did get soft but that will happen when hot food is placed on top of a bread. The torta cost $12.95. My coworker ordered enchilada and  I assumed chips and salsa would be in our takeout bag since the menu stated that it's included but there was no chips.
The waiter happened to be the owner of the restaurant and he was very friendly.
Will I come back? It depends if I'm in the area which isn't very often.

THIS is the best Mexican restaurant on the island.
    Chips are great!
    Salsa delicious!
We recommend the Pacifico on Draft.
Shrimp Chimichanga was excellent with juicy shrimp and perfectly crispy.
The pièce de résistance was the Carne Asada Tacos!  Terrific Tortilla Soup!  Tell Sal that you've heard about his sister Laura's recipes from Sophia and Amy, who had the highest compliments for the beautiful food! Enjoy!

A hole in the wall in Waianae with the best part of the meal being the Salsa, not to hot just right.

The burrito was tasty but wish we had a bit more greens, salsa and sour cream.  Service was on target.
